Lion & Safari Park, Johannesburg

I went to the Lion & Safari Park on one of my first ever trips to JNB back in January.  I was in two minds about whether I should write this post or not, the safari aspect was fine it seemed a bit basic but it wasn’t expensive so I wasn’t expecting much. The lion cub interaction however, I really did not like one bit, it is painfully obvious that they have been drugged and it just left me with a horrible taste in my mouth, these beautiful animals are being exploited so that people can take a selfie with them. I also found out that a lot of the places that offer lion cub interaction sell them onto canned hunts after they start to get older and more wild, like they are supposed to!

I’m not intending this to be a judgemental kind of post, more of a heads up. If I had known what happens at safari’s and lion parks in South Africa before my trip I would never have visited. I’ve since found out that some crew will do the safari part, but they don’t do the lion cub interaction. There are a few safari’s and wildlife parks that rescue their animals etc in the vicinity of where I stay, if I get the 5 day JNB that I’ve bidded for in October I will hopefully get to go to one and then I can write a happier post 🙂

If you have been to a ‘proper’ safari please do feel free to link to any posts and photos!
