Philly was one of the destinations that I would bid for every month, but I would never get. It was really frustrating because it seemed like everyone I knew was getting a trip apart from me. Since January however, I have been rostered 3 in the space of about 6 weeks! I’m just going to combine what I did into the one post because, I didn’t really do enough on each individual trip to justify writing separate posts. Hope you enjoy!
My first trip to Philly basically involved being a typical tourist/crew member and visiting the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the LOVE sign. If I’m being completely honest I found the Rocky steps to be a little bit underwhelming really, yes I have seen the films but it was such an anti-climax! Although I do think the cold weather was partly to blame! It was nice to walk around though, Philadelphia is one of the more photogenic US cities IMO.
On my next trip pretty much most of the crew met up for dinner and drinks, we ended up in a jazz bar quite near to the hotel. I’m not a jazz fan, but it was something different 🙂
The next day I just did my own thing, I walked from the hotel to the Liberty Bell, my sense of direction isn’t the best but Philadelphia is a really easy city to walk around thanks to it grid type layout. I am a bit of a history nerd, so I quite enjoyed the visitor centre reading all about the history behind the bell. Although from talking to the crew that had already been before, they seemed to think it was boring, oh well lol!
On my third trip I had hoped to go to the Eastern State Penitentiary, but the rest of the crew had all been before and although I am more than happy to do my own thing on trips I felt like this was something best done with other people. I’m sure I will get rostered another trip at some point and hopefully I can go then. So I pretty much just spent this trip doing a bit of shopping and then just being lazy in bed watching trashy TV 😀 I also bought an amazing salad from a place called Honeygrow, it is a small chain I think, but it is a really reasonable priced place to get delicious healthy food. I would definitely recommend it.
One thing I haven’t done yet is try a Philly cheese steak, if you have any recommendations let me know!
