Singapore Take Two: A Daytrip to Bintan Island

My trip to Bintan Island involved yet another early start, I was so tired by this point that I was almost tempted to stay in bed. The thought of spending the day in an Indonesian paradise soon had me jumping out of bed though! There are several different resorts you can stay in on Bintan, we decided to go with Nirwana Gardens as we were only going for the day, it was reasonably priced and not too far from the ferry terminal which meant we could spend more time there.

In my personal life I never go on beach or resort type holidays, so to experience places like this through work is a welcome change to what I usually experience. Sometimes you just want to take a break from cultural sight-seeing type trips and just take it easy in the sun 🙂

We were slighty worried that it would be really busy at the resort and we wouldn’t be able to get a lounger, and that it would detract from the experience. Thankfully we didn’t have to worry, it was a week day and not a public holiday so it never felt busy at all. As we were only there for the day we didn’t venture any further than the beach or the restaurant for lunch, so this isn’t going to be an in-depth review or anything of the resort. I feel like it is best to let the pictures do the talking 🙂

After lounging in the sun for a few hours we started to feel hungry, so we headed inside to the restaurant for some amazing satay skewers and a cocktail.

If you are ever in Singapore and feel like escaping to paradise I can’t recommend Bintan enough, it is only 1 hour on the ferry and you can make it as cheap or expensive as you like. We could have went to Trikora beach which is a backpacker hangout, but we wanted to have a bit of luxury so were happy to pay a bit more. If you want an all-inclusive place Club Med seems to be a popular option, but we weren’t interested in spending the day boozing. In total I spent less than £60, this included the return ferry from Singapore to Bintan, return bus transfer, the day pass and food and drink. I personally think it was more than worth it, it was a nice way to relax before another 13 hour flight home 🙂

Take me back now please!

On my final day in Singapore I didn’t do anything other than go for food, I was far too tired to even think about doing anything else! Part of me does feel like I should have just poured a couple of cups of coffee down me and done something, especially as pickup wasn’t until 9PM, but you have to listen to your body doing this job and it would have been stupid of me to have not got my rest 🙂 Here’s hoping I won’t have to wait long until I get another SIN/SYD trip!
